The voucher is approved. The housing is what's missing.
Havens of Valor leases quality homes directly to veterans through HUD-VASH — turning an approved housing benefit into an actual front door, backed by ongoing support from a VA case manager.
We exist to close one specific distance: the gap between a veteran's homelessness and a veteran's home. A voucher alone doesn't do that. A landlord willing to sign the lease does.
A real lease
Every tenancy is a standard 12-month lease in the veteran's name — the same protections and standing as any other renter, not a shelter bed or a program with an exit date.
A steady rent check
The local housing authority pays its share of rent directly and on schedule every month, which is part of why this model works for both the veteran and the property owner.
A case manager on call
Each tenant keeps their VA case manager after move-in — someone Havens of Valor can call directly if a tenant needs support, long before a small issue becomes a lease problem.
"Every veteran who protected a home deserves one of their own to come back to."— LaWanna Viers, Founder, Havens of Valor

How HUD-VASH housing works
HUD-VASH pairs a Housing Choice Voucher with ongoing support from the VA. Here's what the path from referral to move-in actually looks like with Havens of Valor.
Connect with your VA case manager
If you're not already working with a VA homeless programs case manager or your local housing authority, that's the starting point — they confirm eligibility and issue the voucher.
Get matched to a home
Your case manager or housing authority connects you with available Havens of Valor units that fit your household size and voucher amount.
Tour the unit and submit paperwork
You'll walk through the home, and together we submit the Request for Tenancy Approval to your housing authority.
Unit inspection
The housing authority inspects the unit to confirm it meets federal housing quality standards before anything is signed.
Sign the lease and move in
You sign a standard lease in your name, keep your case manager as an ongoing point of contact, and move in.
A note on timing
Every housing authority and VA Medical Center moves at its own pace. Most veterans move from referral to a signed lease in a matter of weeks, not months — but the exact timeline depends on voucher processing and unit availability in your area.
